Guava jam

Guava is one of the most appreciated fruits and is used in natural medicine thanks to its great nutritional benefits.

With this recipe you can enjoy it all year because the well-preserved jam lasts several months in the refrigerator.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg of guavas
  • 500 g sugar – if we use ripe guavas then we can use less sugar
  • 500 ml water
  • 1 cinammon stick
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Directions

  • Peel the guavas
  • Open them in half and remove the seeds. Put them in a saucepan and cover them with water. Add the lemon juice and cook for about 10 minutes over low heat.
  • Strain the seeds using a sieve and keep the juice. Return the juice to the saucepan and add the peeled guavas, the cinnamon stick and sugar. If necessary we can add a little more water.
  • Simmer for about 35 minutes over low heat. During this time guavas will be tender to become a cream, and they will change color to orange instead of pink. If necessary, you can crush them with a beater.

Tips

Once jam is ready, it is best to preserve it in sterilized glass jars. Thue can be store in the fridge. They last for weeks without any problem, and it is delicious with cheese, crackers oreven used to sweeten our yogurt. If we froze the jars, we will be able to enjoy our jam all year long.
